Green Day in Missoula, MT

Show Details

Location: Jay's Upstairs in Missoula, USA
Date: May 1, 1992
Notes:
  • Exact date unknown
  • Johnathan Bailey: "This is awesome. They also played at Jay's Upstairs in Missoula back then so I've heard."
  • Total Fest: "...During college, Charlie was the guy who'd organized shows for (touring behind Margin Walker) Fugazi, and (Kerplunk-era) Green Day."
  • The New Yorker: "Contentious interaction with the audience is a punk-rock tradition. Chad [Dundas] once told me, with a measure of pride, that he had been spit on by Green Day in a club in Missoula before they got famous. ... 'Mike Dirnt even hit me on the head with his bass,' Chad said. 'But I think that was an accident.' Punk bands have been spitting on audiences, and vice versa, since the seventies, but much of the contention between crowds and performers is so layered with irony and insiderism that it can be incomprehensible to outsiders. For instance, audiences often call out for songs that they don't actually want to hear. Freebird, a cornball rock anthem by Lynyrd Skynyrd, is a favorite gag call-out at punk shows."
