"1992 - Green Day, Casa Zimbabwe, Berkeley, CA. $2 admission, included keg, Green Day performed in a room with no stage, hip hop DJs in the other big room, there were as many people dancing in the hip hop room as there were people in the Green Day room."
Anthony Lew: "April 4, 1992. I remember this show well, first time I went to a party at CZ. 3 bands for $2 seems kind of insanely low. As I recall, both Compost and Chill Factor were local jam bands who probably listened to a lot of Primus or Chili Peppers. So it was a weird bill, to say the least. The punks were hanging out at La Val's around the corner, waiting for the hippie-ish/co-op crowd to dissipate after the opening bands. But few people left - Green Day already had this kind of mass appeal even in early 1992. Compost is X'd out because, apparently, they played a different party at the Kingman co-op that night (presumably as the headliners) instead of opening for Green Day. Wonder if they regret that at all or don't care."
