Modern Music Magazine: Live 105, 105.3 FM the San Francisco Bay Area's New Rock Alternative radio station put on their aptly named, annual Not So Silent Night holiday concert this past Friday night, and what better venue then the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, to showcase some of the best known local Northern California bands, including Green Day, Papa Roach, The Deftones and AFI. Also on the bill, but unable to perform was Disturbed. This did not seem to dampen the crowds enthusiasm though, as all of the other bands were able to perform longer, more impressive sets. Finally, the show was down to the last band of the night, Green Day who were promoting their latest hit album Warning. The band, consisting of Billie Joe Armstrong on Guitar and vocals, Tre Cool on drums and Mike Dirnt on bass, kicked out an awesome set, which included goodies off their older albums, such as Brain Stew, Good Riddance, Jaded, and Welcome To Paradise. This band was a great release for the older generation in the crowd which watched this band grow up on Gillman Street in Berkeley. One could tell that Green Day were enjoying themselves and the crowd as much as this crowd was enjoying them. It was a perfect ending to a fabulous concert."
NME: "A long time ago, before the celebrity divorces and crap experimental albums, San Francisco radio station Live 105 used to drip with Britpop. Oasis and Blur rubbed shoulders with Pearl Jam and Pavement in a reasonable attempt at alternative pop radio. Times have changed, and Live 105's current playlist reflects white America's shrinking musical horizons. So tonight's line-up is, like, really eclectic: four Northern California bands covering the whole spectrum from sportz punk to sorry-ass rap/metal. Instead we turn to Green Day for some light relief. It is Christmas after all, and there's been very little dancing and no cheesy singalongs. Billie Joe Armstrong soon sees to that, starting a Mexican Wave, brandishing a Super Soaker whilst yammering actual ad-libs. Santa's here and if you want something fast and shiny that sounds a bit like The Buzzcocks, he's your man. 'Longview', 'Welcome To Paradise' and 'Basket Case' are greeted with justifiable pandemonium and the cavernous hall feels hot and sweaty for the first time tonight. 'Warning' and 'Minority' from the new album see Green Day headed south, to The Beautiful South to be exact - instantly recognizable, slightly silly and loved by mums and dads everywhere. Armstrong even tells a Heaton-esque anecdote about pissing in his suitcase in a Dublin hotel room. It's an ill-fitting parka, but he wears it well and in a radio town where the only chance of hearing 'Badly Drawn Boy' is on a Gap TV ad, we'll settle for a Christmas drink with Green Day."
Significant Other: "The BGM Auditorium, sold out within hours of availability for the headliners, Green Day, rocked to its feet shortly before 11 and didn't sit down for the local faves done good until well after 2 am. From the grungy beginnings up in North Berkeley, where the band used to share the stage at Gillman Street with stale beer and garage band wannabees, the homeboys have become a world touring act that does Saturday Night live and plays music across the dial from coast to coast. Pulling selectively from four CDs, including the recent crossover hit 'Warning', Billie Joe, Mike and Cool had the crowd in the palms of their sweaty hands and singing along to almost every song. At one point, Billie Joe grabbed three guys at random from the crowd and formed a band on stage, had them play drums, guitar and bass, then had these total strangers leap head-first off of the stage, over the barricade area into the arms of the crowd.
We were impressed, to put it mildly."
