  • Amber: "My day started when my mom (who is a huge Green Day fan), my boyfriend and I waited in a long ass line. The weather was unbelievably hot and muggy. It didn't matter to me, though. I was going to see Green Day for the first time in two and a half years. I didn't get much sleep the night before. Anyway, when we got there we saw One Man Army setting up, so we thought we'd walk around and check out the booths and then come back to them. Well, during their set the drummer said that he wanted to thank the Green Day boys for putting up with him. Then he looked to his left and called for Mike in this weird voice. I was like, 'What the hell? Is he up there?' So, I walked to the right side of the stage and there he was in a One Man Army cowboy hat. After the One Man Army's set, we hung out behind the trailer that was connected to the right of the stage. We found out that you could see the entire backstage area from there. The Green Day equipment tents were the closest to the makeshift fence. After this we decided to see Hot Water Music (Tre was on stage listening) and Unwritten Law. After awhile we decided to go back to the makeshift fence, because there was a lot of shade there. A few minutes later we saw Mike Dirnt skateboarding in front of the tents. We got his attention and he posed for a picture. He wouldn't come over to us, though. A few minutes later he came back again, walked around and looked over at the place where we were standing, but a group of people stopped him. So he walked back to the tents and hung his skateboard up with his basses. Ha, it was funny, because after a few seconds he realised what he did. He looked really embarrassed and took it down. Then he picked up Billie's cream-colored Telecaster with three knobs on it and started noodling around. While he was doing that, I talked to the group of people backstage. One guy gave me his pass just so I could meet him. I walked up to him with my Frustrators CD's in one hand and a camera in the other. He looked over at me and smiled. We talked about Frustrators and stuff for a few minutes and he gave me a bunch of their stickers. This was the coolest part. When I asked him to take a picture with me, he was like, 'Sure, but you have to hold the guitar.' Hey, I was complaining I got to hold the guitar Billie used to play Time Of Your Life on the MTV New Year's Eve thing. He told me he was an insomniac and he hadn't slept in a few days, so he felt like shit. I couldn't tell you the bands I saw before Green Day came on. I only saw Billie twice before the show. He never came up to the tent where the guitars were. Right before Green Day's set they hung out in the trailer that was connected to the stage. Of course, Mike teased everyone by walking around near the door. He seemed to be better or a little more drunk at least. He ripped a page out of someone's program and tried wipe his ass with it. He had a hard time trying to get it down his pants. So he just bit the program and threw it into the crowd. I got a pretty good picture of Billie leaning on Mike's shoulders. He only came out twice: once to lean on Mike and another to give someone's CD back. As for the set... I was on the right side near the barrier. I can't remember every song they played, but they started with Welcome To Paradise and ended with King For A Day with Billie dancing around in a zebra print thong. After the set I went right back to where that fence was and saw Tre just hanging out back there. He took what looked like a bug spray container and started spraying everyone. He sprayed the hell out of my mom. Then he sprayed some girl that was sleeping by the fence and woke her up. He never did sign autographs, though. He said we were all wet. Anyway, Mike came back after a while and signed a my mom's poster."
