Matt Webber: "After a 2-hour drive from Brandon to Winnipeg and a half an hour wait in line, I was finally inside the Winnipeg Stadium - at EDGEfest '98! Taking sunscreen turned out to be wise, as bodies got redder, and redder as the day wore on. Green Day kicked ass! This was my first time seeing the trio live! Wow, what a performance. Billie Joe in the devil mask singing The Beautiful People, not to mention his underwear antics during King For A Day, and then the whole bringing-the-kid-up-on-stage-to-play-guitar thing. And of course, billie joe's comments about the state of Alternative Rock & his electric guitar version of Time of Your Life! I could go on and on. ..."
Winnipeg Free Press: "...While compelling sets of tunes had been the order of the punk nouveau stars Green Day went one treating fans to a captivating show of near-vaudevillian Backed by horn players dressed in bumblebee and hot banana pepper guises ... Billie Joe Armstrong ... [lead] the crowd through singalongs of the band's hits ... At one point Armstrong searched the audience for a guitar player ... finding a 19-year-old fan named Trevor who joined the band on stage for a song ... At one Armstrong declared himself president of Winnipeg ... promising a six-pack of beer in every fridge ... Green Day finished its hour-long set with drummer Tre Cool pouring lighter fluid over his drum kit and setting it on fire ... Armstrong performed a solo finale of the bands hit Time of Your Life while the flaming kit belched smoke behind."
