  • Mark Stone: "The day finally arrived and me, Chalky, Ali and co. had made our way into deepest darkest Brixton for what was bound to be the highlight of our lives. After waiting for 2 hours in the cold, only keeping warm because these stupid twats kept lighting huge fires where everyone was cueing, the doors finally opened. Our tickets were torn and we walked to the doors of the main crowd pit. The man on the door told us our tickets were for the upstairs circle and that ‘we shouldn’t have booked through Ticketmaster’. So we walked upstairs, through the doors and found the nearest seats to the front of the balcony, still a mile away from the action, I was so pissed off. After listening to some shit they were playing over the speakers to keep us happy (?) I decided to make the most of it and get a beer. Chalky and I went outside and talked about a plan to get to the moshpit. The plan was set, at the end of the second song by the support group D Generation we would try to pass by the security. We took our seats again and D Generation took to the stage, um, well they did pretty well considering they weren’t actually that good. At the end of the second song me and Chalky went downstairs and told the security that he tore our tickets on the way in and didn’t give us the other end back, he apologised and let us in. By the time D Generation had finished Chalky and me were at the front, ready for Green Day. Fifteen minutes later they arrived onstage and my ribs collapsed with the pressure, it rocked. First came Welcome To Paradise, and everyone knew the words to that! They played all the songs I wanted them to, Paper Lanterns and Knowledge from the first album, 2,000 Light Years Away from Kerplunk and almost all of Dookie and Nimrod. The bits that I enjoyed most were the talking inbetween the songs. Billie Joe introduced us to his mum. He then brought out a Tickle Me Elmo that he made clap along with the song. He sang some of The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson at the start of Longview. Billie Joe also said he'd changed the group and now they were called Bush! he asked if we wanted to hear some Bush and then played Rape Me by Nirvana! The kids with the Bush T-shirts went really red and shut up for the rest of the night, yay! Thousands of bottles of water were thrown over the crowd and Billie pretended to masturbate with one! Tre decided to hit his drums with as many sticks as possible and Mike thumped his bass with a drumstick too! Some kid was brought up on stage to play, and then had to jump off the stage into the awaiting moshpit. Unlike usual moshpits there were few real fights, and everyone seemed to have a great time. At the end of the show they played When I Come Around, Tre jumped off the top of the amp stack, Mike kicked shit into the drumkit, ripped all of the strings off his bass and threw it in the air twice, the last one hitting the smashed up drums Billie sat down next to an amp and played with the feedback for ages and then got another guitar, Blue, to play Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) which was amazing."
