Song Meaning

"It's kind of about this conversation I had with someone when I went back to Gilman last December [1994], I ran into this old friend of mine and all he could say was, 'Wow, what the fuck are you doing here?' – Billie Joe

This is one of the simplest songs on Insomniac. It's a song about being an outcast from the place where you thought would be your home forever and losing those who you thought were your friends. The title comes from the idea of being on the 86 list, as mentioned in '924 Gilman: The Story So Far' by Brian Edge, as being "the following people don't get into shows, no matter how much they pay."

Billie Joe and Mike discovered 924 Gilman Street when in their early teens and they were ostracized from their after their found commercial success by signing to a major label.

Lyrics

What brings you around?
Did you lose something the last time you were here?
You'll never find it now

It's buried deep with your identity
so stand aside and let the next one pass
Don't let the door kick you in the ass

There's no return from 86
Don't even try

Exit out the back
And never show your head around again
Purchase your ticket and
Quickly take the last train
Out of town
